Hi, I'm Lucy and I am a third-year student at Durham University studying German and Russian. I am a passionate and dedicated tutor with two years of experience in English Language, English Literature and Geography up to GCSE Level and German up to A Level. My tutoring approach is first and foremost guided by the needs of the student, however with a basis of conversation and collaboration.

In German lessons, I focus as much as possible on speaking practice, as this is often neglected in schools. I assure to my students that making mistakes is essential to learning, so I will often allow them to speak as much as possible and then we would discuss improvements after.

For English Language and Literature, I teach the student how to structure long answers to maximise the marks they can gain. I work with the text alongside the student, asking them to pick up relevant information, which we then discuss using technical vocabulary. As the themes are often abstract, I like to connect them to real-life examples to clarify the meaning for the student.

For Geography, I also focus on exam technique and the structure of longer answers. I teach them how to analyse graphs and to discuss in depth details of relevant case studies. I encourage the student to connect the various geographical themes together as all geography is linked, and this aids them in answering the most challenging questions.
