How It Works

Three steps from first call to first session

No long forms. No waiting lists. A short conversation, the right tutor, and sessions that start moving the grade from week one.

  1. 01

    Speak to a founder

Tell us the subject, year group, exam board and what's actually slipping. One short call with Joe or Harry, no forms, no auto-routing.

  2. 02

    We match a vetted tutor

Every tutor is interviewed on subject knowledge, how they explain things, and how they work with young people. We match on all three.

  3. 03

    Start sessions from £37/hr

Online one-to-one through Lessonspace, weekly and consistent. Most families notice the change in confidence within the first few sessions.

Why The Degree Gap

What's actually different about how we work

Four things that change how the match lands, and why families stay.

01

A founder picks up the phone

Every match starts with a real conversation with Joe or Harry. No sales team, no auto-routing, no form-to-introduction pipeline.

02

Matched on the spec

AQA Maths and Edexcel Maths are different papers. We match on subject, exam board and how the student learns. Not just the subject.

03

Online, with a reason

Sessions run on Lessonspace with session replay. The right specialist in the country, not the nearest one geographically.

04

Re-match without friction

If a tutor isn't the right fit, tell us. We re-match. No awkward conversation, no process. Around 3% of applicants make it on, so the pool is strong.

Meet The Tutors

Real graduates. Real specialists.

Every tutor on our platform is interviewed personally by the founders. Vetted on subject knowledge, how they explain things, and how they work with young people. Around 3% of applicants make it on.

★★★★★

The Degree Gap has exceeded all my expectations. They have gone above and beyond to pair both my sons with the appropriate tutors. Both exceeded their expected grades in their GCSEs and A Levels and got into their first choice universities.

★★★★★

My son, who is in Year 10, really struggled with English and was completely disengaged. After six months of tutoring, he has improved from a grade 5 to a 6/7. He now looks forward to his lessons.

OmoParent of GCSE Student

★★★★★

My son gained almost two grades higher than his year 13 mock paper. His tutor was excellent.

DaljitParent of A-Level Student

★★★★★

My daughter was struggling with confidence in Maths GCSE. Our tutor was a complete star, listened, made it simple, set good homework and gave my daughter her confidence back. Highly recommend.

Common Questions

Questions we hear from parents most weeks

How do you actually match a tutor?

You speak to a founder first, Joe or Harry. We listen for the specific gap, then match on three things: subject knowledge, exam board, and how the student learns. AQA Maths and Edexcel Maths are not the same paper, so we match on the spec, not just the subject.

What if the tutor isn't the right fit?

Tell us. We re-match without friction. We'd rather find the right person than have a student sitting through sessions that aren't working. No awkward conversation, no process.

Who are your tutors?

Independent tutors on our platform, vetted personally by the founders. All are graduates from top Russell Group universities. Most have at least two years of one-to-one tutoring experience. Around 3% of applicants make it on.

What does online tutoring look like?

Sessions run on Lessonspace, the shared whiteboard built for one-to-one work. Every lesson is recorded so students can revisit it during revision. Online means the right specialist in the country, not the nearest one geographically.

How much does it cost?

Sessions start from £37 per hour. More experienced tutors and qualified examiners sit higher. The rate sits with the tutor, agreed before anything is booked. No contracts, no minimum sessions.

How long until we see a grade move?

Most parents notice tone-of-voice change before they see a mark scheme change. Grade movement, in bands not points, usually follows within a half term of weekly sessions with the right tutor.

Do you work with students aiming for Oxbridge or Medicine?

Yes. We work with families pushing for top mark bands and competitive applications. Our most experienced tutors include qualified examiners. Harry, co-founder, is an LSE graduate and has supported students into Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and UCL.
